Piovono critiche sulla destinazione di 12,5 milioni di sterline per la riqualificazione del Maze che non è mai avvenuta

Non si sa ancora quale sarà il destino del sito del Maze.
Quel che è certo sono i 12,5 milioni di sterline investite in u progetto di riqualificazione del Maze, andato in fumo lo scorso anno. A rivelarlo è stato Trevor Lunn, MLA di Alliance Party, dopo una domanda formale indirizzata all’Ufficio del Primo e Vice Primo Ministro.
Più di 3 milioni sono stati sperperati in fase di consultazione per l’iniziale proposta della costruzione di uno stadio.
Gli unionisti si erano dichiarati contrari a tale progetto che avrebbe anche compreso un’edificio per la trasformazione dei conflitti.
Ogni centesimo sprecato in questo progetto, è un centesimo sprecato per l’economica nordirlandese.
“E’ sconcertante che quasi 12,5 milioni di sterline siano sono stati finora spesi sul sito del Maze , e non c’è ancora quasi niente a dimostrarlo,” ha detto Lunn.
“Con una somma di denaro spesa in questo modo per un progetto al pubblico, ci si aspetta giustamente  di vedere i risultati, ma c’è poco o niente in questo caso.”
La Royal Ulster Agricultural Society ha manifestato l’intenzione di tenere il prossimo annuale Balmoral Show presso il sito del Maze.

Criticism of £12.5m Maze spend (NewsLetter)
Almost £12.5m has been spent on redeveloping the former Maze prison site, it has emerged.
The figure was revealed by Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn, following a question to the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister.
Plans to turn the area into a new multi sports stadium were scrapped last year.
Over £3m of the total spent is believed to have been spent on consultancy fees for the initial stadium proposal.
Some unionists were against the stadium at the Maze due to plans for a conflict transformation building at the site.
Mr Lunn said for everyday the prison site remained unused, money was being lost to the Northern Ireland economy.
“It is staggering that almost £12.5 million has been spent on the Maze site so far, yet there’s next to nothing to show for it,” he said.
“There has been a myriad of groups operating under different names dealing with the Maze site yet the one strand running through all of them is that no matter the work they have done, the Maze site is still sitting unused.
“With an amount of money like this being spent on a project the public would rightly expect to see results, but there are little or none in this case.”
The Royal Ulster Agricultural Society has indicated it would like to hold the annial Balmoral Show at the venue.
