Quattro autobus distrutti da lanci di moltov

Quattro sono gli autobus distrutti da un attacco con moltov, avvenuto presso il deposito della Translink a Whiteabbey. Altri due automezzi sono stati danneggiati quando sono state lanciate molotov attraverso una recinzione di sicurezza in Glenville Road.
Tre squadre di vigili del fuoco sono stati chiamati a domare le fiamme, alle 00.50 circa di ieri notte.
Si stima chel’attacco, posso costare alla Translink almeno 200.000 sterline.
Gerry Mullan, della Translink, ha affermato che non si è trattato del primo attacco. In precedenza erano già stati bersaglio di lanci di pietre e di numerosi atti vandalici.
Ai pompieri pare essere chiara la natura dolosa dell’incendio, in cui bruciati anche 100 pneumatici circa.
A confermarlo un loro rappresentante, Mark Beresford, il quale ha dichiarato: “Essi (i vigili del fuoco) ha fatto un ottimo lavoro al fine di prevenire la propagazione del fuoco agli autobus sulla stessa linea, e di spegnere il fuoco”.
“Attualmente lo stiamo trattando come un incendio intenzionale, la polizia e noi stessi proseguiremo più tardi nelle  indagini.”
Dal canto suo, la Translink ha definito l’attacco ‘un atto vandalico demente’ ed ha tenuto a precisare che offrirà una lauta ricompensa (ben 1.000 sterline) a chi sarà in grado di fornire prove certe che possano portare alla perseguimento dei colpevoli.

Arsonists have destroyed four buses in a petrol bomb attack at a Translink depot in Whiteabbey, County Antrim.
Another two buses were damaged when the petrol bombs were thrown over a high security fence at the premises on the Glenville Road in the village.
Three fire engines were called to the incident which was reported at about 0500 BST on Sunday.
It is estimated the damage from the blaze will cost Translink at least £200,000.
Depot manager, Gerry Mullan, said it was the latest in a series of attacks at the premises.
“We have had night staff attacked with stones and attacked with catapults from the back fence here,” he said.
“We have had cars vandalised in the past, so there has been a group of youths quite active in this area.”
Earlier, Mark Beresford of the NI Fire and Rescue Service said he believed the fire, which has now been extinguished, was deliberate.
He said the blaze had also involved about 100 used tyres.
“They (the firefighters) did a very good job in preventing the fire spreading to further buses along the line and to extinguish the fire,” he said.
“We are currently looking at it as a deliberate fire, police and ourselves will be investigating later.”
Translink condemned the incident as a “mindless act of vandalism”.
“We operate a cash reward scheme offering up to £1,000 to anyone who is prepared to give evidence leading to a successful prosecution,” a spokesman said.
