Per la polizia si è trattato di un falso allarme ben orchestrato

Si è concluso ieri sera lo stato di allarme che ha riguardato il tratto ferroviario delle linea Belfast – Dublino, nei pressi di Newry.
Si è trattato di un importante attività investigativa sul tratto tra Meigh e Killeen, durante la quale gli agenti presenti sul posto sono stati bersagli di colpi di arma da fuoco. Un fatto questo che ha subito fatto pensare che il tutto fosse stato concepito nel tentativo di tendere uan trappola ‘mortale’ alle forze di sicurezza.

A five-day security alert in Newry finally ended last night with police describing items found on the Belfast to Dublin railway line as “an elaborate hoax”.
During the marathon investigation, officers attending the scene between Meigh and Killeen at the weekend were fired upon in an attack being described as “attempted murder” by the local police chief.
PSNI Area Commander Chief Inspector Sam Cordner blasted the “reckless” behaviour of “terrorist criminals” who shot at police and paralysed the area. He has appealed for anyone with information to contact the police.

A stretch of the A1 linking Newry and Dundalk was closed on Monday as the police operation drew to a close. Both carriageways of the normally busy road were closed and traffic diverted.
But all roads and the railway line were reopened shortly after 8pm last night.
