Man held over NI killings (The Irish Times)
A 51-year-old man was arrested today by police investigating the dissident republican murders of two soldiers outside an Army base in Northern Ireland.
The man was detained in the Mid-Ulster area during an early morning raid and taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim for questioning about the killings of Sappers Patrick Azimkar (21) from London, and Mark Quinsey (23) from Birmingham.
The pair were shot dead at the gates of Antrim’s Massereene Barracks in March as they collected pizza from a delivery man just before they were due to fly out to Afghanistan for a tour of duty.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland said the arrested man was also being detained over the wounding of five other people — including the delivery drivers – who were shot in the incident, which was claimed by the Real IRA.
Prominent Co Armagh republican Colin Duffy was charged with the murders within weeks of the attack, and 44-year-old Brian Shivers, from Maghera, Co Derry, was charged with the killings 12 days ago.
When he appeared in court, police said they feared another suspect they were looking for had fled the jurisdiction.
