“PULIZIA ETNICA” A RASHARKIN

Protestants ‘are being driven out of village’ (NewsLetter)
Republican criminals are attempting to destroy relations between Protestants and Catholics in Rasharkin so they can take over the village, it has been claimed.
Speaking following a meeting with Security Minister Paul Goggins and Orange Order Grand Master Robert Saulters, the DUP Assemblyman said that there had been more than 30 attacks on Protestants and Rasharkin Orange Hall over the last 12 months.
Mr Storey said that he and Mr Saulters had told Mr Goggins that those responsible for the attacks had to be “subject to the full rigour of the law”.
“It is clear that certain republican elements are attempting to do in Rasharkin what was done in Dunloy; driving out every single Protestant family,” he said.
“The overwhelming majority of people in Rasharkin want to live peaceably alongside one another – they do not want republican criminals destroying the relationships that exist between people from different backgrounds.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to outline our concerns over these issues and look forward to the matter being dealt with in a more serious manner.
“By cooperating together we can see the sectarian bigots who target Orange halls and their Protestant neighbours defeated.”
TUV leader Jim Allister said that what was happening in the village amounted to “ethnic cleansing”.
He said that it was “no accident” and was part of the “cruel design of republicanism to drive every last Protestant out of the village, just as they have done in Dunloy”.
“This is all part of the age-old ‘Brits Out’ strategy of republicanism,” he said.
“What is happening in these selected parts of north Antrim is a reminder of what an all-Ireland future would hold – decimation of the Protestant and unionist population, just as happened in the Republic.”
Last week local Sinn Fein MLA Daithi McKay blamed the PSNI for trouble which flared in the village on July 13, but added: “Attacks on Orange halls, churches, AOH halls and people’s private property are not going to further any cause and they must all end immediately.
“Dialogue and engagement will go a long way in resolving issues which are causing tension within the community.”
