Una banda di giovani si è introdotta giovedì 2 aprile nella casa di Peggy O’Hara a Templegrove, saccheggiando denaro e sonniferi.
La donna, 78 anni, candidata indipendente alle ultime elezioni e madre di Patsy O’Hara, hunger striker dell’INLA, è riuscita a barricarsi in bagno mentre i ladri mettevano a soqquadro la casa, ma è uscita molto scossa dall’esperienza.
Un portavoce dell’IRSP ha dichiarato: “Chi ha fatto questo è assolutamente da condannare. Peggy O’Hara è un membro rispettato della comunità e, dopo la morte di suo figlio nello sciopero della fame del 1981 e dopo 30 anni di intimidazioni,  non dovrebbe essere molestato all’interno della propria comunità da questi teppisti. Tutti i più anziani membri della comunità devono avere il diritto di vivere in pace nelle proprie case senza paura”.

The mother of INLA hunger striker Patsy O’Hara has been left “badly shaken” after her home was broken into and ransacked on Thursday night.
It is understood that several young people broke into the 78 year-old’s home in the Templegrove area of the city shortly before midnight and ransacked the house before making off with a small amount of money and a quantity of sleeping tablets.
Mrs O’Hara, who stood as an independent candidate in the last Assembly elections, was at home during the break-in and locked herself in a bathroom while the thieves searched her house.
A spokesperson for the IRSP said Mrs O’Hara was traumatised by the incident.
“We totally condemn whoever did this. Peggy O’Hara is a well respected member of the community and, after her son’s death on hunger strike in 1981 and 30 years of harassment she should not be harassed in her own community by these thugs. All older members of the community should have the right to live in peace in their own homes without fear. At Mrs O’Hara’s time of life she deserves to be left alone,” the spokesperson said.
