L’ordigno era stato individuato dalla PSNI lo scorso mese in Antrim Road, a North Belfast, a due giorni di distanza di un primo allarme bomba nei pressi del negozio Xtra-Vision

E’ ancora vivo nei ricordo l’allarme bomba che aveva letteralmente paralizzato Antrim Road, North Belfast, quando il 23 gennaio scorso era stato individuato un veicolo sospetto nei pressi del negozio Xtra-Vision. Circa 50 le famiglie costrette a sgomberare le proprie abitazioni. A bordo del Volkswagen 7 posti, un ordigno che secondo indiscrezioni mai confermate avrebbe potuto contenere dalle 200 alle 400 lb di esplosivo.
Almeno tre le esplosioni controllate, effettuate dagli artificieri prima di rimuovere il veicolo abbandonato a soli 50 mt dalla stazione della PSNI. Ma lo stato di allerta si estese dopo due giorni ad un altro ordigno individuato nelle vicinanze.
Solo oggi sono trapelati i dettagli. La bomba, con ogni probabilità collegata a quella principale a bordo del veicolo sospetto, era attaccata ad una bicicletta da bambino. Non solo. E’ stato rivelato che l’allarme bomba sarebbe scattato originariamente dopo che un uomo aveva in precedenza infranto i vetri del negozio Xtra-Vision.
La PSNI ha oggi divulgato sia la fotografia della bicicletta da bambino, sia l’immagine dell’uomo estrapolata dal video registrato da telecamere a circuito chiuso (CCTV).
“I detectives della Serious Crime Branch stanno seguendo una linea di indagine, secondo la quale il danneggiamento del negozio Xtra-Vision e l’allarme bomba, potrebbero essere collegati”, ha rivelato l’ispettore capo Justyn Galloway.
“Stiamo rilasciando filmati di colui che è stato visto nelle vicinanze del negozio Xtra-Vision. Questo uomo può disporre di informazioni di vitale importanza per l’inchiesta. Sapete chi è? In caso affermativo si prega di contattare la polizia”, ha aggiunto l’ispettore capo. “Stiamo anche divulgato una fotografia della bicicletta da bambino che è stata utilizzato per occultare la booby trap bomb”.
“La bicicletta è molto caratteristica, e il nostro secondo appello è rivolto a qualunque bambino possieda una bici e che l’abbia persa o gli sia stata rubata, o a qualcuno che abbia venduto una bicicletta simile a questa privatamente”.
Tre gli uomini arrestati fino ad ora, tutti sulla trentina, attualmente sottoposti ad interrogatori.

A booby-trap bomb found by police on north Belfast’s Antrim Road last month was attached to a child’s bicycle, it has been revealed.
The bomb was the second found in the area during a security operation which lasted a number of days.
Police believe they were lured to where the first bomb was found after a window was smashed in a video shop.
Three men – all of them aged in their 30s – have been arrested and are being questioned about the attempted attack.
Detectives have released images of the bike and of a man at the video store close to the first bomb’s location.
Although neither bomb exploded, the senior investigating detective said a trap had been put in place “to kill police officers which could easily have murdered members of the public”.
Police were first called to the Xtra-Vision shop on the Antrim Road on the night of Sunday 23 January after a man damaged a window and ran off.
On the following Tuesday, following a number of anonymous warnings, officers discovered a bomb close to the shop.
“Detectives from Serious Crime Branch are following one line of enquiry that the incident of criminal damage at Xtra-Vision and the bomb alert may be connected,” Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway said.
Police want to speak to a man who was seen in the vicinity of the Xtra-Vision store.
The second device attached to the child’s bike was found beside a scout hut two days later.
“We are releasing footage of the man who was seen in the vicinity of the Xtra-Vision store.
“This man may have information which is vital to the investigation. Do you know who he is? If so please contact police,” Det Ins Galloway said.
“We are also releasing a photograph of the child’s bicycle which was used to disguise the booby-trap device.
“The bicycle is quite distinctive, and our second appeal is to anyone whose child has owned such a bike and lost it or had it stolen, or anyone who has sold a bicycle similar to this privately,” he said.
