Dissidents blamed for armed robbery bid on security van (Belfast Telegraph)

An attempted armed robbery on a security van in Lisburn in which a shot was fired has been blamed on dissident republicans.
During the robbery two masked men fired a shot after threatening guards near a cash in transit van in Longstone Street. The men escaped in a red Hyundia car with a cash box during the incident around midday yesterday.
Police believe the robbers may have transferred to a white can shortly afterwards. The security guards were not injured but were left shaken by the incident.
The cash box was later recovered. Detectives are now examining a link between an abandoned vehicle and the armed robbery.
Army bomb experts were called to an abandoned car in Glenties Drive in Lenadoon, west Belfast yesterday afternoon. The incident was later declared a hoax.
Lisburn City Councillors have condemned the incidents with DUP councillor Margaret Tolerton blaming dissident republicans.
Councillor Tolerton said: “This area is such a busy thoroughfare. There are lots of children around because of the school holidays. I am horrified that such a thing should happen in broad daylight. It sounds like dissidents to me — who else would do such a thing?”
Sinn Fein councillor Angela Nelson said: “I would condemn any sort of incident of this nature especially when guns are used in such a built up area like this. I am very glad that no-one was injured and I hope the police manage to catch the robbers.”
