Il DUP si scaglia contro i media dopo le insinuazioni seguite alla notizia di perquisizioni presso gli uffici del Castlereagh Borough Council nelle indagini contro Iris Robinson

Il Democratic Unionist Party prende le difese di Iris Robinson e accusa i media di ‘completa costruzione e diffamazione’, in seguito alle indiscrezioni rese note dopo la notizia di perquisizioni presso la sede di East Belfast del Castlereagh Borough Council, avvenute lo scorso sabato.
Un portavoce del partito, a seguito di colloqui con la famiglia Robinson, ha confermato che la moglie del primo ministro nordirlandese è tutt’ora ricoverata presso una casa di cura psichiatrica e sorvegliata 24 ore su 24 nel timore che possa nuovamente tentare di nuocere a se stessa.
In un comunicato il DUP asserisce che la Sig.ra Robinson non ha in alcun modo adottato una tattica alla ‘Tiger Woods’ nel tentativo di riaprire le porte verso una vita pubblica, avvertendo gli organismi di informazione che chi ha rivolto accuse diffamatorie dovrà “affrontare le conseguenze”.
“Iris ha pubblicamente ammesso la sua unica indiscrezione e ha pagato un prezzo alto per questo”, aggiunge il comunicato.
“Il comportamento della stampa e dei media allargando, esagerando, arricchendo di falsità e sensazionalismo la sua posizione e impegnandosi in storie di pura fantasia su di lei (Iris Robinson), è un chiaro tentativo di perseguirla fino alla sua tomba e didistruggere la vita di tutta la sua famiglia.
“La sua storia sarà raccontata e coloro che hanno reso accuse diffamatorie si troveranno ad affrontare le conseguenze”.

The DUP has hit back at media reports about Iris Robinson, which the party has branded “complete fabrication and defamation”.
According to a statement issued by a spokesman, having spoken with the Robinson family, Mrs Robinson remains in hospital under acute psychiatric care and under 24-hour suicide watch.
The party claims that is a result of “the unremitting and ruthless lies and attacks against her”.
The statement also rubbishes claims Mrs Robinson would make a “Tiger Woods style” public apology in a bid to return to public life, saying there is no element of truth in the claims.
The spokesman continued by warning that those responsible for making defamatory accusations will “face the consequences”.
“Iris publicly admitted her one indiscretion and has paid a high price for it,” the statement added.
“The behaviour of the press and media in extending, exaggerating, embellishing and sensationalising her position and engaging in pure fantasy stories about her is a clear attempt to pursue her to the grave and destroy the lives of all her family.
“Her story will be told and those who have made defamatory accusations will face the consequences.”
Searches
The statement by the DUP comes as offices at Castlereagh Borough Council have been searched by a police team investigating allegations made against Iris Robinson in a recent tv programme.
The PSNI have confirmed they were at the East Belfast building on Saturday night.
A group from the Organised Crime branch is carrying out an enquiry after a documentary alleged Mrs Robinson secured a £50,000 loan from two wealthy developers to help her 19-year-old lover set up a restaurant.
It is claimed she did not declare an interest in the business despite sitting on the council that awarded the tender.
Mrs Robinson quit her three political positions as an MP, MLA and councillor after it emerged she had an affair with Kirk McCambley.
A special meeting of Castlereagh Council will take place on Monday evening to discuss a replacement for her seat.
