Allarme bomba dopo che una telefonata aveva informato della presenza di una bomba nella casa di famiglia dell’esponente del Sinn Fein

L’ufficio elettorale del Sinn Fein aveva ieri mattina ricevuto una telefonata da un uomo che aveva informato della presenza di un ordigno pronto ad esplodere, nella casa di famiglia di Gerry Kelly, esponente di spicco del maggior partito repubblicano.
Immediati i controlli, che non hanno portato ad alcun risultato. Non è stato rinvenuto alcun dispositivo sospetto.
Nessun gruppo è stato ancora ritenuto colpevole della minaccia, ma sono note le attività minatorie dei dissidenti repubblicani nei confronti dei maggiori rappresentanti del Sinn Fein, compreso il vice primo ministro Martin McGuinness, minacciato di morte più volte.
Gerry Kelly, che si trova attualmente negli Stati Uniti in occasione del 25° anno del MacBride Principles, ha condannato duramente chi si cela dietro alle minacce nei confronti suoi e della sua famiglia: “Come pubblico rappresentante ho ricevuto minacce in precedenza e quest’ultima non mi distrarrà dal svolgere il mio lavoro, nel rispetto delle persone che mi hanno eletto. Siate certi che non ci lasceremo intimidire”.

A senior Sinn Fein representative has condemned a bomb threat targeting his family home.
Junior Minister Gerry Kelly, who is currently in the US on a political trip, said his constituency office received a call yesterday morning claiming a bomb was about to be detonated at the republican’s family home.
The North Belfast representative said searches failed to find an explosive device, but he condemned those behind the threat.
No group has been blamed for the threat, but dissident republicans have already threatened to attack senior Sinn Fein members, including Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.
Mr Kelly, who is in the US for events to mark 25 years of the McBride Principles on fair employment, said those behind the threat would not deter him from his work.
“My constituency office was phoned this morning and a man claimed that a bomb would go off outside my family home within an hour,” he said yesterday.
“My home was subsequently checked and nothing was found.
“I condemn this cowardly threat against my family.
“As a public representative I have received threats before and this latest one will in no way detract me from carrying out my work on behalf of the people who elect me. Be assured that we will not be intimidated.”
A PSNI spokesman said they did not comment on individual threats.
