Sua Maestà la Regina Elisabetta II è salita oggi, 6 maggio, in vista a Derry per la prima volta dopo 8 anni.
Arrivata alle 3 presso l’aeroporto City Of Derry, è stata scortata dalla polizia, prima a Lisneal per poi trascorrere il pomeriggio nel Waterside.
Durante la visita alla città, la Regina è stata accompagnata dal principe Filippo e dal Segretario di Stato Shaun Woodward.
Presenti anche il Primo Ministro Peter Robinson, il portavoce della House of Foyle Willie Hay e il sindaco Gerard Diver.
Dura (e giustificata) la reazione del Republican Sinn Fein riportata dal Indimymedia.ie, che per bocca del suo portavoce ha dichiarato: “Derry è il luogo dove il suo esercito ha  ucciso quattordici persone durante la Bloody Sunday. E’ inoltre ancora sotto la giurisdizione britannica con la forza delle armi. Come tale, ella non è la benvenuta a Derry o in qualsiasi altra parte d’Irlanda. “

Queen Elizabeth visits Londonderry (Londonderry Sentinel)
Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II, visited the Waterside this afternoon, Wednesday May 6, for the first time in almost eight years.
During a whistle-stop tour of Londonderry, Queen Elizabeth and her retinue, visited the newly-opened Lisneal College and Altnagelvin Area Hospital.
The Queen was accompanied by Prince Phillip and Secretary of State Shaun Woodward during an offical visit to the city.
First Minister Peter Robinson, Speaker of the House Foyle MLA Willie Hay and Mayor of Londonderry, Gerard Diver, were all in attendance.
The Queen arrived at City of Derry Airport at approximately 3pm and was escorted by police to Lisneal where she was greeted by Principal David Funston and hundreds of pupils.
Queen Elizabeth was presented with a small replica of a canon used during the Siege of Derry.
