21 arrested over Queen protests (NewsTalk)
Gardai have arrested 21 people in Dublin protesting against the visit by Queen Elizabeth II.
They were detained following clashes with Gardai close to the Garden of Remembrance.
Small demonstrations were held on Parnell Street and Dorset Street in the capital.
Some protestors fired missiles including bottles and fireworks at Gardai.
It comes as hundreds of well-wishers turned out to see the Queen today.
Hundreds of onlookers lined O’Connell Street in Dublin as the Queen passed by on her way to the Garden of Remembrance.
There was loud applause as her cavalcade led by an escort of honour sped by.
It passed by the historical GPO where the proclamation of Independence was read in 1916.
There was some small protests by socialist republican group Eirigi unhappy with the visit to Ireland.
Sinn Fein released 1,000 black balloons into the air as the Garden of Remembrance ceremony got underway.
But gardai kept the situation under control.
They have arrested 21 people for public order offences.
But for the most part people were happy to see the Queen in Ireland.
