Si fa sempre più critica la situazione e soprattutto la sorte del Governo di Stormont che rischia di cadere definitivamente sulla questione power-sharing oggetto di notevoli scontri negli ultimi giorni tra DUP e Sinn Fein.
Molto probabilmente infatti salterà anche la prevista riunione di domani (oggi 3 ottobre n.d.r.) del North-South Minister Council.
I poteri di polizia e giustizia avrebbero dovuto essere trasferiti da Londra a Stormont nel maggio scorso, ma il DUP sta bloccando il passaggio, affermando di aver bisogno di più tempo per valutare le future intenzioni dell’IRA.

Executive meeting set to be cancelled due to ongoing row

Today’s scheduled meeting of the North’s power-sharing Executive is virtually certain to be cancelled due to the ongoing row between Sinn Fein and the DUP over the devolution of policing powers.
The two parties have failed to resolve the impasse and tomorrow’s planned meeting of the North-South Minister Council is also expected to be called off as a result.
Police and justice powers were supposed to be transferred from London to Stormont last May, but the DUP is blocking the move, claiming it needs more time to assess the IRA’s future intentions.
The Executive has failed to meet since mid-June as a result of the standoff.
