Sono state più di 100 le chiamate ricevute dal centralino del Fire and Rescue Service (Vigili del Fuoco) durante la notte dell’11 luglio, alla vigilia della Twelfth Parade.
Le richieste di intervento hanno riguardato soprattutto l’area di Belfast, ma un portavoce dei pompieri ha affermato che le richieste provenivano da tutto il Nord dell’Irlanda.
I vigili del fuoco sono dovuti intervenire per ‘raffreddare’ alcune abitazioni molto vicine ai bonfires.

In celebrazione della liberazione dell’Irlanda dalla morsa di King James II, sovrano assolutista, i bonfires vengono accesi durante la notte dell’11 luglio in tutta Irlanda del Nord, per commemorare la vittoria di William III nella battaglia del Boyne. Viene cucinato cibo, si narrano racconti accompagnati dalla musica dei Lambeg.

The Fire and Rescue Service received more than 100 calls and responded to 80 incidents during 11th night bonfires.
The majority of the calls were in the Belfast area, although a spokesperson said they responded to incidents across Northern Ireland.
Some houses and other buildings had to be cooled by firefighters because they were close to bonfires.
The bonfires are lit ahead of the Twelfth of July parades which are taking place on Monday.
