The Five Demands

Questa è la decisione della tribunale di immigrazione, comunicata a Pol Brennan dal suo avvocato, lo scorso mercoledì.
Egli venne arrestato nel 1976, fuggì dal Maze (Long Kesh) nel 1983, ed emigrò negli Stati Uniti trascorrendo gran parte della sua vita a San Francisco.
Ora, dopo quasi venticinque anni, l’ex prigioniero dell’IRA dovrà lasciare gli Stati Uniti. E’ agli arresti dal mese di gennaio dopo essere stato fermato, in concomitanza di controlli di frontiera, perchè in possesso di un permesso di soggiorno scaduto.
Pol Brennan ha testimoniato di aver trasportato per 5/6 volte materiale esplosivo per conto dell’IRA.
Brennan aveva chiesto asilo politico o il diritto residenza permanente. A tutt’oggi il suo avvocato ha dichiarato di non sapere se il suo assistito indenda ricorrere in appello.

IRA prisoner loses bid to stay in US
A former IRA man and Maze prison escapee who has been living in the US for nearly 25 years has been denied the right to remain in the country.
Pol Brennan’s lawyer was notified of the decision yesterday. A spokeswoman for the immigration courts says the order was issued on Wednesday.
The 55-year-old was taken into custody in Texas in January after the Border Patrol noticed he had an expired work permit.
Brennan has testified that he transported what he believed were explosives for the IRA on six occasions.
He was arrested in 1976, escaped from the Maze in 1983, and fled to the US. He has been living in San Francisco.
His lawyer says he did not know whether Brennan wanted to appeal.
Brennan had asked for political asylum or permanent residency.
