Guns and explosives found in forest (UTV)
Firearms, ammunition, explosive components and documentation have been seized following a search in connection with dissident republican activity in the Republic of Ireland.
Gardaí uncovered the weapons haul a few kilometres from Limerick city in the village of Meelick in Co Clare on Friday evening.
Police said the weapons were found during the search of a wooded area which was part of what they called an ongoing investigation “into the activities of dissident republicans”.
Bomb disposal experts were alerted and declared the area safe before a forensic examination was carried out at the scene.
The weapons have been taken away for further examinations.
“No arrests have been made to date and the investigation is ongoing,” a police spokesperson said.
