I giudici della Corte di Appello hanno deciso che il ricorso di Michael Stone verrà discusso alla fine dei gennaio 2010.
La decisione è stata motivata nella mancata disponibilità del un consulente senior coinvolto nella causa.
Stone era stato condannato per il tentato omicidio di Martin McGuinness e Gerry Adams durante un attentato a Stormont, nel 1996, dove Stone era riuscito ad entrare armato di con esplosivi, coltelli, un’ascia.
L’ex leader lealista è attualmente paralizzato a causa di una grave forma di artrite.

Michael Stone may have to wait until next year to appeal his conviction for attempting to murder Sinn Fein leaders Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness. Judges at the Court of Appeal were told on Friday it may be better to delay the loyalist killer’s hearing until January. This is due to the unavailability of a senior counsel involved in case. Stone, now crippled with arthritis, had gone to Stormont armed with explosives, knives, an axe and a garrotte. He was wrestled to the ground by two security guards after bursting through the main doors as Assembly members were gathered inside. The attack was captured by film crews and photographers who were there to cover developments in the political process in Northern Ireland in November 2006.
